The average time people spent viewing internet video grew 52% between 2008 and 2009. New research from The Diffusion Group (TDG) predicts that “by 2020 the consumption of internet video — content stored and distributed over an IP architecture — will eclipse the consumption of broadcast TV programming”.
The bottom line: (1) internet video is just getting started and (2) big media companies are moving even now to produce video for the internet that will be shown on regular TV but even more importantly, regular TV produced from the beginning to be shown as web video TV. The report shows that the level of competion for internet viewers is rising quickly. Current internet video producers will need to tune up the quality and even the quantity of their videos if they expect anyone to watch them.
OK – I’ve given it a solid month since my last comment about this TV. Nothing has gone wrong, everything still works, and I’m getting rave comments from house guests – especially those who are still back in the TV in a box era. Its hard to get them to leave.
I’m seeing a number of the Samsung A550 models around. Thats an older model – the big diff is in the refresh rate with the 550 = 60 and 650 = 120. That makes a big, big difference in picture quality and depth of field. Many of my friends are comenting on the amouth of back detail they can now see in movies and regular TV shows that just didn’t show on box TV’s and older Plasma’s and LCD.
If you’re shopping for a new TV for the upcoming switch to digital HD you owe it to your self to give this set a look.
Steve
I’ll keep this short and sweet. I needed a new digital TV and spent a couple of weeks looking, shopping, pricing for the most bang for my buck. I wanted a wall mount LCD with the largest screen, best picture (of course) for around $1,500. It quickly became apparent that the specs I was after was 1080p and 120hz. That quickly narrows the field to Sony and Samsung. Now, I’m a Sony Video/TV Camera and Commercial VCR fan from way back – we have several Sony rack mount units in our video lab but I have to say that Samsung now has my vote when it comes to LCD picture quality. I’m on Satellite since I live in the country and the HD programming is just awesome. Even SD (Standard Definition) programming is excellent.
The Samsung LCD that I’m raving about is the LN46A650 with Red Touch of Color. I bought mine for $1,507 which included free shipping. It arrived in 4 days just before Thanks Giving. The most common comment was about the picture quality and more specifically the depth of field. Even in older movies and shows theres a lot of backgound content that just wasn’t visible before.
Best Wishes for the Holidays
If you’re in the market for a TV this would be a great holiday gift for yourself or family. Check it out.
