9 Steps Internet Video Course Update
First, Thanks to everyone who's helped spread the
word about the 9 Steps Video Course and this Web Video Expert
newsletter. Most of you don't know that the course grew
out of a simple 3 page report I published in Jan 06. It has
since taken on a life of its own with several thousand subscribers.
My original plan was to have version 3 of the course
finished by now. Then along came the US Tax season and a
couple of other non internet related issues that simply ate up the
last 4 weeks. Just a reminder - All current subscribers will
be receiving a copy of version 3 when completed.
I've added a few web site
and online training links that many earlier subscribers have not
seen.
Step 1 - Online Training
Notes, Examples, and Links
Step 2 - Online Training
Notes, Examples, and Links
I've also updated the
Recommended
Video Hardware and Software a couple of times in response to my
One
Minute Video Survey and to email questions. Its greatly expanded
in comparison to one that many of you received as part of the email
series.
Coming Soon: The One Minute Video Survey pointed out
that over 90% of course subscribers don't currently have any video
on their computer to work with so I'm putting together some standard
video footage and a script that you can download and use for editing
practice. I'll be announcing that as soon is its ready.
Show Me Your Video - Send me a link to your video and I'll
pass it along to the several thousand viewers of this this
newsletter.

How to Use Internet Video to
Increase
Your Google Rankings!
Anyone with a website is aware of the importance of ranking
highly in the Google Search Engine. I believe that
putting a topically relevant video on your page can increase your
Google rankings. Here's why:
During the past two or so years, Google has been making changes in
both algorithms and infrastructure that increasingly allow them to
track "user behavior" when visitors are on your webpage.
In 2005, they patented some of the new technology that allows them
to accomplish this.
Google wants to know - Did
they arrive at your site via search or an incoming link? Did they
have your site bookmarked? How long did they stay on your
page. What links do they click when they leave?
How can Google know all this? Well, first they have a
stored copy of your webpage. In fact they have many copies
reflecting all the changes you've made over time. Plus, they
can easily track any visitor to your site that arrives via Google
search or bookmark. They also track the actions of millions of
users of the various Google products.
Now, more than ever they are able to pull all this together and
create a profile that relates specific data points to a particular
page of yours. With enough data points they can track user
behavior on your page such as how long a visitor spends checking out
your latest article or content. The implication is that the
longer a visitor spends on your page - the more relevant it is
to their original search and over time the more ranking Google will
give to your page in future searches.
How does Web Page Video fit into Google's user behavior equation?
First, we know from other studies that a web page video attracts
eyeballs. People will look to the video player before other
content on the page. Second, if the video content and the page
content compliment each other, then the viewer is apt to spend time
watching the video. Finally, if the video is well designed so
that it ends by prompting the visitor to take action on the current
page or by clicking a link to another page on your site then you
have a scenario that should rank well with Google's user behavior
algorithm.
The bottom line is that a web page video increases the time an
average visitor spends on a page and Google views that as a positive
for ranking your page.

Internet
TV Action
If you need further proof that Internet Video and TV is the next
really big thing click on over to
ABC where
you can watch the latest episode of Lost, Desperate Housewives, and
more or visit Guba.com for the
Sopranos', House, and a lot more. Check out
BitTorrent to download the first HDTV programs available on the
Internet. Seems that Warner Bros Studio has jumped on board
the Internet Video train by signing a deal with BitTorrent.
Less than a year ago they were trying to shut them down. If you're
in to techie subjects Digital Life TV
has many episodes online.

Multi-Media Tools
If you're planning to do Internet Video or Podcasting you
need quality tools that will save you time and money. I've
evaluated a fair number of products - some free and some quite
expensive - here are the ones I've chosen to use.
Webmaster has excellent discount pricing on both at the moment. Just click the
